Porträt von Nik Bärtsch
Nik Bärtsch © Claude Hofer

Swiss pianist and composer Nik Bärtsch has crafted a unique musical genre he calls «Ritual Groove Music» through his profound exploration of Zen Buddhism. He showcases this meditative and rhythmically distinct style in clubs and on stages around the globe in various constellations. For a new piece commissioned by Basel Sinfonietta, his acoustic formation Mobile is joining forces with the Sinfonietta's full orchestra for the first time. The second half of the evening will see the Sinfonietta present music by the Oscar-winning Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, including a piece from the award-winning drama Tár starring Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss.

Conductor: Titus Engel
Solo Cello: Martin Jaggi
Nik Bärtsch's Mobile: Nik Bärtsch (piano), Sha (alto saxophone, bass clarinet), Nicolas Stocker (drums, percussion),  Lena Schmidt (lighting design)

Concert introduction at 6.15 pm.

In collaboration with Basel Sinfonietta and offbeat Jazzfestival Basel.
