Together with the IUED (Institute for Translation and Interpreting) of the ZHAW and the Audio Description Network, the Kaserne is organising an introductory workshop on audio description for the stage. In addition to the basics of what live audio description actually is, the focus will be on creating audio description using practical examples.

In addition to providing initial audio description skills, this workshop is also intended as the starting signal for the creation of an audio description scene in Basel. We are planning further events in the coming season.

Michael Vogt from the Audio Description Network has this to say about audio description: “ As an audio description author, my aim is not simply to describe a theatre, an opera, a dance performance or a concert. Rather, audio description is a way of making previously hidden things tangible and comprehensible for the blind. If both blind and all other viewers find our audio description interesting, then we have done our job well. Then the speakers, editors, technicians and authors have succeeded in capturing the art, the story and the atmosphere attractively in the audio description.”

The workshop is aimed in particular at theatre professionals who are interested in getting into audio description of their own works and those of colleagues, but is open to anyone interested in the field of live audio description.

A laptop is required for participation.
